About
Maria specializes in dispute resolution and has experience in representing clients during the pre-trial stage (complaint procedure, negotiations and mediation) as well as before state courts of the Russian Federation.
Currently, Maria is involved in resolving commercial disputes, including those complicated by foreign elements, and interacts with international arbitration centers/arbitral tribunals. In addition, Maria has participated in projects on labor, corporate and other issues concerning legal obligations.
Maria also has participated as a reporter in a number of disputes at the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (ICAC at the CCI RF). Since 2023, Maria has been a research intern at the International Justice Research and Training Laboratory of the National Research University “Higher School of Economics”.
Maria’s professional and academic fields of interest include international commercial arbitration, international civil litigation, private international law and international trade law, as well as the impact of sanctions on dispute resolution.
Maria is also a participant of the second cycle of the “RUSSIAN WOMEN IN ARBITRATION” (RWA) mentoring program that supports and promotes female lawyers in dispute resolution.
During her studies, Maria has participated in a number of international law competitions (moot courts), including the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot) (2019), Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court (2021), VII Student Competition in International Commercial Arbitration named after M.G. Rosenberg (2021), 17th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition (2022), International Business Mediation Moot Court (IBMM) (2022), and the VII RAA Online Arbitration Competition (2022). Since 2022, Maria has also been serving as a judge/arbitrator in student competitions and is also a member of the Organizing Committee of students’ competition on negotiations and Mediation IBMM.
Experience
- representing a major German engineering company in a dispute with a major Russian oil and gas chemical company over the return of an advance payment in the amount of more than EUR 1m. Applicable law: Switzerland, Germany
- representing a major Russian metal packaging manufacturing company, part of an Austrian-American concern, in a dispute against foreign companies of the concern over the return of advance payments in the amount of more than EUR 10m and EUR 7m declaring the acceleration of loan debt illegal, cession and set-off invalid. Applicable law: Austria, Slovakia
- representing a Russian company of an Austrian group working on the development and production of innovative plastic packaging in a dispute against a utility company on the recovery of water supply and sewerage costs in the amount of RUB 50m
- representing a Russian company engaged in agricultural trade of raw materials, animals, textile materials and semi-finished products in a dispute against a former foreign participant of the company
- representing a Russian company, a member of a British telecommunications company group, in a dispute against the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation for recovery of accounts receivable in the amount of RUB 10m
- preparation of a legal opinion for a Russian company engaged in the production of films, videos and television programs on the prospects of a dispute with a foreign contracting company
